The "Poorest States" in America
- States with the lowest median household
income do not necessarily have the lowest
average income
(A few super rich people raise the average without
any significant effect on the mean.)
- Nor do they have the greatest number of
poor people
(Richer states may have larger populations,
including the number of poor people.)
- Nor the lowest of state government assets
(There is a huge difference between
non-renewable assets and renewable assets, and
between deteriorating assets and growing assets,
between maintained infrastructure and
non-maintained, deteriorating infrastucture.)
- Nor the lowest number of state-wide real
estate values
(Especially when much of that real estate is owned
by rich people and corporations from out of
state.)
