Joni Ernst (R-IA) to
become a U.S. Senator
only because they felt
they had no real choice.
Ernst ran for the senate seat vacated by
the retirement of Sen. Tom Harkins (D-IA).
Harkin had held that Senate seat for thirty
years, during which time the Democrats
did not develop a strong enough
replacement candidate.
