Political Factoid
America has not yet fully eliminated slavery.
"There shall never be in
this state either slavery
or involuntary servitude,
except as a punishment
for crime, whereof the
party shall have been
duly convicted." [emphasis added]

Article 2, Section 26 of the
1877 Colorado Constitution
(still in effect in 2016)
|
Indeed, the Colorado constitution simply
echoes the U.S. Constitution, Amendment 13.
Key definitions:
- Slavery
the practice or system of owning slaves,
or the state of a person who is a chattel
(an item of property other than real estate)
of another.
- Involuntary Servitude
when a person laboring against that
person's will to benefit another,
under some form of coercion other
than the worker's financial needs.
- . . . call it what you will
Both constitutions need to be revised to
eliminate any ambiguity about the "ownership"
of a human being by another legal entity, be
it individual, corporation, or government.
