  1. When preparing to speak at the 2016 national Trump nominating convention, Mrs. Donald Trump (Melania) reviewed the work of others for ideas, including the speech that Mrs. Barack Obama gave at the 2008 national Democratic convention, and which Mrs. Trump particularly liked.
     
  2. Mrs. Trump allegedly read specific words from Mrs. Obama's speech to a Trump-family friend and script writer as a suggestion for Mrs. Trump's own speech.*
     
  3. The speech writer used those words read to her of Mrs. Obama's virtually verbatim in preparing the speech to be read by Mrs. Trump at the 2016 GOP national convention.*
     
  4. The afternoon before giving her speech, Mrs. Trump said in an on-camera interview that she had written the speech herself, with as little help from anyone else as possible.
    This is now recognized as being an apparent lie, one way or another.

  5. That evening Mrs. Trump gave her speech at the 2016 GOP national convention where sharp eyes and ears caught the plagiarism.
     
  6. The next morning the Trump campaign manager complained to the press that Hillary Clinton was responsible for all this talk about plagiarism.

  7. Donald Trump told the press that there was no plagiarism and that his wife had done a fantastic job.

  8. A couple of days later, after the heat in the Trump kitchen became too much, the script writer came out and claimed responsibility.*
     
  9. The "You're Fired" grand master declined to accept the resignation of the script writer.
