Political Factoid
Blue laws were repressive
puritanical laws from the colonial
period which were enacted in
many states and designed to
enforce religious standards
(clearly based on Christian beliefs)
by forbidding any secular
activity on Sundays.
Since the 1960s, many blue
laws have been repealed, and
most states and localities
have abandoned enforcement
of blue laws.
Today, a growing number of
right-wing religious finantics and
political activists have been
championing new versions of the
old blue laws to impose their
religious views on others.
