If you had invested in each
stock of the Dow Jones
Industrial Average (DJIA)
Index back at the beginning,
you might well be quite
broke by now
. . .  as "every one" of
the original companies
has either gone out of
business or otherwise
performed so poorly that
it was kicked out of the
DJIA and replaced.*
Likewise for the Standard and Poor's (S&P) index
