Political Factoid

A retiring congressman isn't
allowed to get a pension of
more than 80% of his salary,
but after retiring, the cost of
living adjustments
kick in,
which can add substantially
to their payments.

This is unlike most private pensions
which are fixed dollar amounts,
and steadily eroded by inflation.
