Political Factoid
Public education tax dollars subsidize the cable and television industry.
Just follow the money trail.
Tax dollars go to public universities which fund athletics as well as education, often giving athletics the higher priority.
- Athletic directors and coaches are given high salaries and other compensation.*
- Stadium facilities cost more than a classroom building.
- Classes are disrupted by games scheduled for benefit of television industry.**
The university games provide programming material for the television and cable industry.
- The University is only partially compensated for the production cost of such games.
- This effectively subsidizes the television industry.
No wonder the United States is falling behind in education.

e.g., the University of Washington scheduled a football game midweek during afternoon rush hour for the benefit of television industry. This disrupted key classes, access to University of Washington Hospital, as well as the area afternoon commute.
The university athletic department chartered 340 private buses for the event. All student parking places were taken away from the students that day and given to the sports fans. Because of holidays, this made three weeks in a row with no Thursday afternoon classes.
