Political Factoid
During the development of the Democrat's Health Care Bill in 2010,
Republicans often claimed it would lead to government "death panels"
which would decide which patients would live and who would die.
Turns out, they did know something about "death panels" -- GOP Death Panels.
- The Arizona Republican Legislature had already passed a law, sighed by Republican Governor Jan Brewer, which trimmed $4.5 Million from the Arizona budget (and eliminated $15 Million in matching Federal funds) by stopping their state run version of Medicaid from providing insurance coverage for organ transplants (kidney, heart, lung, bone marrow, etc.)
- When this law took effect, 98 patients (one as he was being prepped for surgery) had their previously approved transplant operations suddenly cancelled, sentencing them to death.
Two of the people have subsequently died and the Governor is actively working to ensure the others will never be able to get a transplant.
