Political Factoid
The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)
now reduces the rights of all Americans.
- The NDAA has been enacted each year
for half a century to specify the budget of the
Department of Defense (originally Department of War).
- However, this time (2012) the Republicans attached a
rider that, albeit had bipartisan support in the Congress,
did not have the approval of the President.*
- Because of the timing, and the way it was presented,
the president was essentially forced (coerced)
into signing it.**
The rider indicates anyone accused of being
a "terrorist" - including a U.S. citizen - can be
arrested by military police, denied due process,
denied access to civilians courts, and be
imprisoned indefinitely.
* |
Because it could allow American citizens to lose their constitutional
rights.

** |
President Obama did issue a "Signing Statement" saying
he would not implement that portion of the bill against U.S.
citizens. However, such a signing statement is not binding
on future presidents.
