Economy Shifts with Corporate Cost-reduction Plan*
- Transfer as much labor as possible to the consumer.
(e.g., make the consumer go on-line, log into your system, look up their account, and enter the data.)
- Charge the consumer a fee for this "convenience."
("Bundle" the pricing of this process so you can call it "free.")
- Don't worry too much as to whether or not the system is error-prone.
(Just let the customer have all the risk).
- Let the consumer's tendency to forget ... work in your favor.
(Don't forget those hefty late fees.)
- Charge consumers to correct any errors.
(Insist they incorrectly entered the data or did something else wrong.)
- Hide the data from the customer after a few months.
(If they had wanted a copy for later, they should have downloaded it.)
- Make consumers print out their own receipts.
(Using their printer, their paper, their ink, their toner, their time.)
- Lay off employees.
(We no longer need them as the consumer is now doing their work.)
- Take large executive bonuses.
(After all, you did improve the corporate bottom line.)
