Political Factoid

Electric cars produce "no emissions."
They are charged with electricity that is
made mostly from fossil fuels like
coal and natural gas that do produce
emissions.

Indirectly, electric cars produce two-thirds
as many greenhouse gas emissions, on
average, as a similarly sized car that
runs on gasoline.
Driven 10,000 miles, an electric car will use
about 2,500 kilowatt-hours of electricity.
That is 20% more than the average
annual consumption of a typical
U.S. home
.
Assuming an average utility rate of 11 cents
per kilowatt-hour,* it will cost $275 a year
to fuel an electric automobile.
To be competive, drivers of non-electric
cars would need to find gasoline that
costs only 70 cents per gallon.
*  Two-car households will create triple the
electric demand
and undoubtedly raise
electric prices considerably.
