Political Factoid
The 2012 Republican presidential
candidates shared some core beliefs.
- All candidates believed in lowering taxes.,
- Most candidates wanted to make permanent
the George W. Bush tax cuts of 2001
and 2003, especially the tax cuts for
the most wealthy.
- Most wanted to roll back regulations
on businesses and financial firms.
- Some have proposed to completely
eliminate taxes on capital gains
and other investment income altogether.
- They wanted to lower the corporate tax
rate to as low as 12.5 percent --
barely a third of the current level.
- At least one had proposed eliminating
the Sarbanes-Oxley regulations which
were put in place after the financial
disasters of such companies as
Worldcom.
Equivalently, they wanted to cut off the
oxygen supply to the federal government
and let it bleed to death.
