Political Factoid
In many states it is against the
law to use price gouging during
emergencies.
In New Jersey, for example,
it is illegal to raise "prices"
by more than 10% during
an emergency.
Nevertheless, as Hurricane
Sandy approached, numerous
merchants suddenly raised
their prices for gasoline,
batteries, flashlights,
bottled water, etc.
And in the future, it may not
be surprising to find stores
posting the following sign
whenever a major storm
approaches:
18% gratuity* will be
added to your bill at
the checkout counter.

for staying open to "serve" you.
