Political Factoid
Canadian banks are weathering the current
[2010] world financial crisis.
"We did a number of things," says
Paul Martin, the 21st Prime Minister of
Canada and former leader of the Liberal
Party of Canada.
"Instead of loosening or deregulating
our banking system, we tightened up,
with the net result that some 15 years
later when the banking crisis hit -- the
one we are now going through -- our
banks came through it with flying
colors."
-- [emphasis added]
|
Martin's policies had a direct effect on
eliminating Canada's chronic fiscal deficit by
reforming various programs including social
services.
