The U.S. Constitutional
requirement   . . .
is that the president must not
only be an American citizen,
but he or she must also be
a natural-born American.
This has not slowed anyone from
running for president who met the
"shirttail" of that requirement.*

  • George Romney
  • Lowell Weicker
  • John McCain
  • Ted Cruz
     
    ...  and all of them Republicans
* e.g., they each had de facto citizenship,
and did not need to go through formal
naturalization, albeit they had not been
born in one of the united states
